Reset User Password on Older Mac

  1. Turn on Mac
  2. Hold down COMMAND + R keys during startup to enter RECOVERY MODE
  3. Once in Recovery Mode, click UTILITIES, then TERMINAL
  4. Once Terminal opens, type:  resetpassword
  5. Press ENTER
  6. Close Terminal and you will see a window behind it.
  7. Select the User Account from the list
  8. Type in your new password twice, and a hint
  9. Click SAVE
  10. Restart the Mac

When you login again, use the new password.  A message will appear that the Keychain cannot be unlocked.  You will need to click CREATE NEW KEYCHAIN
